For those who would rather take to the water you can go explore Manitoulin Island. The water is perfect for kayaking or swimming. 

Niagara Falls

The world-famous Niagara Falls is always a top favourite for summer vacations. It is a breathtaking natural wonder that never fails to impress.  

“A little further from home is Niagara-on-the-Lake, another magnet for travellers,” said Marques. “This heritage area is famous for the Shaw Festival, wineries and old-town charm. Take a ride on the Whirlpool Jet boat, tour a world-class vineyard or take in a play.”  

Stroll along the scenic Niagara Parkway, visit the wax museums or the Bird Kingdom. For the more adventurous, zip-lining over the gorge or taking a helicopter tour offers unforgettable views.  

Niagara Falls is an essential summer road trip attraction with natural beauty and vibrant attractions.

If you want a more scenic route, check out Algonquin Park.  

“Plan your route for time and fuel efficiency but also for optimum beauty. Get off the highways and onto the more scenic routes,” said Marques. “Take pictures of the scenery, but make sure you and your travel companions are featured in lots of the images. You’ll be glad you did.” 

Enjoy canoeing, hiking and wildlife spotting in this serene park. Don’t forget to capture the stunning views of the lakes and forests.  

Prince Edward County

Located between Toronto and Ottawa, this is the perfect vacation spot. It is a favourite among wine and cheese lovers.  

Start your journey to the county’s renowned wineries, where you can enjoy Pinot Noir and Chardonnay tastings. For the foodies, don’t miss out on taste-testing the local cheese and baked goods.  

If you prefer more outdoor adventure activities, check out Sandbanks Provincial Park. This area is perfect for biking, hiking, and canoeing.  

Quebec City, Quebec

If you’re looking for a place that feels like Europe but a bit closer to home Quebec City is the perfect place to head on your next road trip. Here you can stroll the charming cobblestone streets and visit the Notre-Dame de Québec Basilica-Cathedral, the only holy door outside of Europe.  

If you are looking for a bit more adventure while visiting Quebec City, you can check out Montmorency Falls Park. There, you can go gliding over the falls on a zip line, or if you’d prefer to stay on the ground you can hike to the top! 

L’Anse-Saint-Jean, Quebec

A bit off the beaten path is L’Anse-Saint-Jean a charming municipality in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec. 

During the summer, the village has something for everyone. Activities include horseback riding, hiking, fishing, sailing, swimming, and kayaking. It’s the perfect destination for those seeking both tranquility and outdoor adventure. 

Waterbury, Vermont

For those planning a trip abroad this year, consider visiting Waterbury, Vermont, just a short drive away. Ice cream enthusiasts can enjoy the Ben & Jerry’s factory tour while they’re there.  

If ice cream isn’t your style, don’t worry! There are plenty of hiking trails nearby, including the Long Trail, one of the longest trails in the U.S. If you are looking for something a bit faster, Waterbury is known to have some of the best mountain biking trails.
